In the aftermath of the mass casualty terror attack targeting Jewish families in Sydney, Australia, Mayor Martinez of Richmond, California, chose to amplify antisemitic conspiracies by blaming Jews and Israel instead of standing with the victims.
This was not a moment of confusion or poor wording. It was a clear moral failure.

At a time when Jews around the world are facing escalating threats, violence and intimidation, the words of public officials carry enormous weight.
When a mayor legitimizes antisemitic lies, it fuels hatred, emboldens extremists, and places Jewish communities at even greater risk. Enough is enough.
Leaders are entrusted to protect all communities – not to single them out through dangerous rhetoric.
Blaming Jews and Israel for terrorist violence is not political critique. It is antisemitism, plain and simple.
The silence from local leadership is deafening. Richmond’s City Council must act immediately to formally censure this inexcusable behavior. Anything less sends a message that antisemitism is tolerated.
Mayor Martinez must resign, and City Council must make it clear that antisemitic incitement has consequences. Jewish families in Richmond, across the United States and around the world are watching to see who will stand up for them when it matters.
