Eurovision 2026 has not even begun, and already Israel is facing backlash and warnings from the European Broadcasting Union over promotional activity tied to its entry.
Supporters of Israel say the response from Eurovision officials makes little sense. The EBU reportedly acknowledged that Israel did not violate rules regarding government funding or outside sponsorships. The issue instead centered on messaging encouraging fans to vote, despite Eurovision allowing viewers to cast up to 10 votes in the competition.
Critics are now asking why Israel appears to be receiving harsher scrutiny than other participating countries that have run similar campaigns in previous years.
An international coalition of Eurovision fans and pro-Israel activists has launched a major email campaign demanding equal treatment for Israel and transparency from Eurovision organizers.
They are calling on the EBU to withdraw the warning issued to Israel’s delegation and apply the same standards fairly to every country in the competition.
