The strike sends “a clear message to all senior officials in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that controls Iran today: The IDF will hunt you down one by one,” Israel’s defense minister said.

Israel has eliminated the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, a senior Iranian military figure responsible for maritime operations, including mining activity and attempts to block shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Defense Minister Israel Katz later confirmed the operation, saying the commander was “directly responsible for the terror activity of mining and attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz to shipping.”
Katz said the strike sends “a clear message to all senior officials in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which controls Iran today: The IDF will hunt you down one by one,” adding that Israeli forces will continue operating inside Iran with full force to achieve the war’s objectives.
The elimination comes amid escalating tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil and gas passes. Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the United States would destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure if Tehran did not reopen the strait to international shipping.
Iran responded by threatening to target energy infrastructure across the region if its facilities were attacked, further raising tensions around one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.
Meanwhile, Iran has reportedly reinforced defenses and deployed additional forces to Kharg Island, the strategic island that handles roughly 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports.
The preparations reportedly included placing mines along potential landing areas and deploying additional portable air defense systems, as the United States has reportedly considered a possible operation to seize the island as leverage to pressure Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The elimination of the IRGC naval commander signals a growing focus on Iran’s maritime and economic warfare capabilities, particularly efforts to disrupt global shipping and energy routes.
