The IDF cleared for publication on Monday the name of a soldier killed in combat in southern Lebanon as Hezbollah’s drone attacks continue to exact a deadly toll on Israeli forces operating north of the border.
Staff Sgt. Adam Tzarfati, 20, of Rosh HaAyin, a fighter in the Maglan commando unit, was killed overnight when an explosive drone launched by Hezbollah struck forces operating in southern Lebanon.
According to the military, the attack occurred in the Yohmor area north of the Litani River, not far from the Beaufort ridge, where Israeli forces have been conducting expanded operations against Hezbollah strongholds.
The drone struck a force from the Maglan unit operating under the Golani Brigade’s battle team shortly before 1 a.m. One additional soldier was seriously wounded in the attack, while two others sustained light injuries. The wounded were evacuated by helicopter for medical treatment.
Tzarfati was killed just a day after Israeli forces captured the strategic Beaufort ridge, one of Hezbollah’s most important positions in southern Lebanon.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered condolences to the family, describing Tzarfati as a courageous commando fighter who fell while helping defend Israel from Hezbollah.
“Adam, of blessed memory, a brave commando fighter, fell in battle after our forces took control of the Beaufort ridge,” Netanyahu said. “He fought with courage and heroism to defend our cities and towns against the Hezbollah terrorist organization.”
The prime minister also wished a speedy recovery to the wounded soldiers and praised Israeli troops continuing to operate in Lebanon.
The incident has renewed scrutiny over Hezbollah’s growing use of explosive drones. According to Israeli military correspondents, 13 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, including 10 in attacks involving explosive drones.
The latest attack came as Hezbollah continued launching rockets and drones toward Israeli forces and northern Israeli communities, underscoring the persistent threat posed by the terror group’s aerial capabilities despite months of Israeli operations targeting its military infrastructure.
The IDF said operations against Hezbollah will continue as forces work to secure areas north of the border and prevent future attacks on Israeli civilians.
