An Israeli reservist was killed during operations in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced, as fighting along the northern front continues amid rare diplomatic efforts between Israel and Lebanon.

IDF reservist Eyal Uriel Bianco, 30, from Katzrin, served as a firefighting vehicle driver in the 188th “Barak” Armored Brigade. He was killed during operational activity in southern Lebanon, the military said.

According to initial details, Bianco was killed when a military Humvee overturned during the mission. Another reservist was moderately wounded in the incident, while two additional soldiers sustained light injuries. All were evacuated to hospital for treatment, and their families have been notified.

The Katzrin Local Council mourned Bianco, describing him as “a devoted family man, a person with a heart of gold and a warm smile that touched everyone who knew him.”

“His memory will remain forever engraved in the heart of Katzrin,” the council said in a statement. “We grieve this terrible loss and share in the family’s sorrow.”

He was also remembered by members of the Barak Brigade Association, where he had served in recent months.

His death comes as IDF forces continue operations in southern Lebanon, where ground activity and airstrikes have intensified in recent weeks as part of efforts to push Hezbollah away from the border and dismantle its capabilities.

At the same time, diplomatic efforts are quietly underway. Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, is expected to meet his Lebanese counterpart in Washington in a rare high-level engagement — the most senior direct talks between the two countries in decades.

The U.S.-brokered discussions are expected to focus on efforts to disarm Hezbollah and stabilize Israel’s northern border, even as fighting on the ground continues.
