Dana Eden, an Israeli television producer and co-creator of the espionage series Tehran, was found dead in an Athens hotel room while in Greece for the production of the show’s fourth season, Israeli media reported Monday. She was 52.
Greek news outlets Ta Nea, Documento, and Proto Thema reported that Eden had been staying at the hotel since Feb. 4 and that her brother discovered her body.
The reports said bruising was found on her neck and limbs, and that pills were present in the room. All three outlets said Greek authorities are examining the possibility that her death was a suicide.
Eden’s production company said rumors suggesting nationalist or criminal involvement in her death are unfounded.
The Israeli Embassy in Athens confirmed it is in contact with Eden’s family and is assisting them following her death.
Eden was a prominent figure in Israel’s television industry and co-founded Donna and Shula Productions in 2007 with producer Shula Spiegel.
Through the company, she helped create and produce Tehran, a drama centered on a Mossad agent played by Niv Sultan. The series won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama in 2021 and is broadcast in Israel on KAN 11 and internationally on Apple TV+.
Donna and Shula Productions said it was “shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of our beloved friend and partner, Dana Eden,” describing her as an internationally recognized creator who had worked in television for more than 30 years.
The company said it has won multiple awards during her tenure, including an Emmy for Tehran.
KAN, Israel’s public broadcaster and a partner on the series, said Eden was “among the senior figures in the Israeli television industry” and played a central role in developing and leading some of its most influential productions.
Eden began her career in 1998 producing the pilot episode of Chalomot Ne’urim. Her later credits included Saving the Wildlife, She Has It, Magpie, and Shakshouka.
The third season of Tehran, which stars Hugh Laurie, was recently released internationally on Apple TV+ after debuting in Israel in late 2024 and has ranked among the platform’s top 10. The series has been filmed primarily in Athens, which has served as a stand-in for Tehran since its first season.
Eden was active on social media until last week, posting favorable reviews of Tehran and photographs from the set of the fourth season.
