On April 20, HonestReporting Canada accused CBC reporter Mrinali Anchan of once again turning fringe anti-Israel activism into mainstream “news,” this time through coverage of the University of Alberta encampment fight, while omitting the extremism, incitement, and broader context that Canadians deserve to see.

This matters because Canada is not facing a vague climate of “tension.” It is facing a documented antisemitism crisis.
On April 22, The Algemeiner reported that a new Canadian Senate report called for hate crime units nationwide and protection for synagogues from protesters, warning of rising Jew hatred across the country.
The same report cited B’nai Brith Canada’s audit showing 6,219 antisemitic incidents in 2024, the highest total ever recorded by the group, with Alberta among the provinces seeing the sharpest increases.
We cannot let this slide while major media outlets blur the line between protest and extremism.
When coverage strips away the hate speech, the intimidation, the terror apologetics, and even the reason this war began on October 7, it does more than mislead. It launders radicalism.
It tells Jewish viewers and readers that their fear is inconvenient, their trauma is optional, and their reality can be edited out. That is unacceptable in any newsroom, let alone one funded by the public.
HonestReporting Canada’s petition is a necessary reminder that media accountability is not censorship. It is a demand for truth.
CBC must tell the whole story, not just the version anti-Israel activists want amplified.
