President Donald Trump praised Israel as a “GREAT ally” of the United States in a Saturday night post on Truth Social, offering strong backing after tensions flared over his earlier remarks on the Lebanon ceasefire.
“Whether people like Israel or not, they have proven to be a GREAT Ally of the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “They are Courageous, Bold, Loyal, and Smart… Israel fights hard, and knows how to WIN!”
The statement marked a notably warm tone toward Israel following confusion sparked by a post a day earlier.
On Friday, Trump wrote that “Israel will not be bombing Lebanon any longer” and that it was “PROHIBITED” from doing so by the United States, a message that raised alarm in Jerusalem and prompted Israeli officials to seek urgent clarification from Washington.
According to Axios, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was “personally stunned and alarmed” by the wording, which Israeli officials feared went beyond the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
A U.S. official later clarified that policy had not changed, stressing that while the ceasefire restricts offensive operations, Israel retains “the right to self-defense against planned, imminent or ongoing attacks.”
Trump’s latest remarks appeared aimed at reaffirming support for Israel, even as diplomatic sensitivities around the Lebanon ceasefire and broader regional tensions continue to evolve.
