Vice President JD Vance said Monday that the United States is closing in on a long-term agreement with Iran designed to permanently prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, while acknowledging that Israel may not agree with every aspect of the emerging deal.

Speaking to Fox News, Vance emphasized that President Donald Trump’s approach to Iran is being guided by American interests, even when those interests do not perfectly align with Israel’s.

“The Israelis and the United States, we have a lot of shared interests,” Vance said. “But we also have some situations where our interests diverge.”

Vance said the Trump administration’s primary objective is ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.

“While Israel obviously has some objectives that it has, the United States’ main objective in Iran is to ensure that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

According to Vance, recent developments have created an opportunity to secure a lasting resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

“Over the last year and a half, we’ve created the space necessary where the president believes — and I think he’s right — that we can get a long-term settlement to Iran’s nuclear issue,” he said.

The vice president acknowledged that Jerusalem may have reservations about the final outcome.

“Now, Israel may like that, they may not like that,” Vance said. “But fundamentally, we think this is in the best interest of the United States of America.”

His comments come amid reports of disagreements between Washington and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government over the administration’s diplomatic efforts with Tehran and the recent military escalation involving Iran.

Vance declined to directly address reports of friction between the two allies, including allegations that American officials are concerned about Israeli intelligence activities targeting U.S. discussions related to Iran.

Instead, he stressed that the administration remains focused on achieving a diplomatic solution.

He argued that continued conflict is not in Iran’s interest and described the prospect of a ceasefire and broader agreement as a major victory for the United States.

“They don’t want this war to continue. It’s not in their best interest,” Vance said of the Iranians.

The remarks echoed comments made by President Trump earlier Monday, when he told reporters that negotiations with Tehran were nearing completion.

“We’re in the final throes of what will be a very, very good deal,” Trump said, adding that he expected an agreement could be finalized within “two or three days.”

The proposed arrangement is expected to include guarantees that Iran will not obtain a nuclear weapon and could pave the way for a broader ceasefire and the restoration of normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
