Iran launched multiple missile barrages toward central Israel overnight Tuesday, striking several areas in the Tel Aviv region and causing widespread damage as air raid sirens sent residents rushing to shelters.

One of the missiles, carrying a cluster warhead, directly hit a residential building in the city of Ramat Gan, killing two civilians and wounding at least five others, according to emergency responders.

The victims were later identified as Yaron and Ilana Moshe, a married couple in their 70s who lived in the building.

Initial findings indicated that submunitions from the missile struck the structure, with one impacting the roof and penetrating into the apartment below. The couple was found near the entrance to their safe room, suggesting they had attempted to reach shelter but did not make it in time.

Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen described the scene as a deadly impact site, confirming the use of a cluster-type missile.

“This is a fatal scene. We lost two residents as a result of a direct hit from a cluster missile fired from Iran,” he said. “They had a protected room in the apartment, but unfortunately did not manage to reach it for reasons that are still unclear.”

Residents in the building described the moments surrounding the strike. Chen Amir, who lives on a lower floor, said he and his wife entered their shelter when sirens sounded.

“After about a minute we heard a very strong explosion,” he told Hebrew-language outlet Walla. “Two minutes later I opened the door and the apartment was full of thick smoke and a burning smell.”

He said the couple’s apartment sustained severe structural damage, including a large hole blown through the ceiling of the living room.

The deaths of Yaron and Ilana Moshe underscore the deadly toll of the ongoing missile attacks, as civilians across central Israel continue to face repeated barrages and race for shelter with only seconds to spare.
