“Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!”

President Donald Trump has instructed aides to prepare for an extended naval blockade of Iran, signaling a strategy focused on sustained economic pressure rather than a return to direct military strikes.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Trump believes maintaining the blockade of Iran’s ports and restricting its oil exports carries fewer risks than either escalating to renewed conflict or pulling back from the region. The approach is aimed at tightening pressure on Tehran as negotiations over its nuclear program remain stalled.
U.S. officials say Trump is standing firm on a central demand that Iran suspend uranium enrichment for at least 20 years. Iranian officials indicated earlier this week they need additional time to consult with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei before presenting a unified response.
Trump has repeatedly emphasized that any agreement must ensure Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon. In a series of posts on Truth Social, he suggested Iran is under severe internal strain.
“Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse,’” Trump wrote Tuesday, adding that Tehran is seeking to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as it tries to “figure out their leadership situation.”
He also criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for what he claimed was a permissive stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “If Iran had a Nuclear Weapon, the whole World would be held hostage,” Trump wrote, adding that he is taking action other leaders failed to pursue.
By early Wednesday, his tone had shifted to a more blunt warning. “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon!” Trump wrote, alongside an AI-generated image declaring “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY,” underscoring his growing impatience with Tehran.
Negotiations remain fluid. CNN reported that mediators in Pakistan expect to receive a revised Iranian proposal in the coming days after the U.S. rejected an earlier version.
The diplomatic process has been marked by repeated disruptions. Trump recently canceled a planned trip by his negotiating team to Pakistan for a second round of talks, citing frustration with delays and internal divisions within Iran’s leadership. “They offered a lot, but not enough,” he said, noting a revised proposal followed shortly after.
The developments underscore a tense standoff, with Washington escalating economic pressure through the naval blockade while continuing to build up military forces in the region, raising the possibility that the crisis could shift back toward open conflict if negotiations fail.
