A New York fashion designer launched a humanitarian initiative following the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre in Israel, creating an organization dedicated to supporting children who lost one or both parents in the attacks and the war that followed.
Marlene Kolangi, based in Long Island, founded Israel Orphans of 10/7 after shifting her attention away from her fashion business in the wake of the violence.
Kolangi is the founder of Kaituz, a Queens-based bridal and modest fashion label.
Speaking on the podcast Alan Skorski Reports, Kolangi said the scale of loss faced by Israeli families compelled her to act. “These children lost everything in a single day,” she said. “They need more than sympathy — they need stability, support and a future.”
The organization focuses on direct assistance to children orphaned by the Oct. 7 attacks. According to Kolangi, Israel Orphans of 10/7 provides immediate financial relief while also establishing long-term savings accounts for each child.
The group funds key life milestones, including bar and bat mitzvahs, education expenses and weddings, and offers emotional support services such as play therapy.
Kolangi said she travels frequently to Israel to meet affected families in person and ensure aid reaches them directly.
Support is delivered in multiple forms, including financial assistance, clothing, gift cards and ongoing material help. “The most important thing is dignity,” she said. “These children should feel embraced by the entire Jewish people.”
Kolangi has spoken publicly about the initiative at community events and has been featured in Jewish media outlets, where she encourages others to respond to tragedy with sustained action. She emphasized that the effort is designed to endure. “This is not a six-month project,” she said. “We are committed to walking with them for years.”
Information about supporting the initiative is available through the group’s fundraising campaigns, including those hosted on CauseMatch as part of the Healing Heroes initiative. Inquiries can also be directed to info@israelorphansof10seven.org
