“I will not hide from you that I expressed general skepticism about the nature of any agreement with Iran,” Netanyahu said.

Just before departing Washington for Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his brief but significant visit was largely devoted to discussions on U.S.–Iran negotiations.

“I have just concluded a short but important visit in Washington, in talks with our great friend President Trump,” Netanyahu said before boarding his flight. “There is a very close, very genuine, and very open relationship between us.”

Netanyahu said discussions covered several issues, but were centered on the negotiations with Iran.

“The president believes the Iranians have already learned who they are dealing with,” he said.

“I think the conditions he is creating, combined with the fact that they surely understand they made a mistake the last time by not reaching an agreement, could create the conditions for achieving a good deal.”

Netanyahu acknowledged, however, that he remains skeptical. “I will not hide from you that I expressed general skepticism about the nature of any agreement with Iran,” he said. “But I said that if an agreement is indeed reached, it must include elements that are very important to us, to Israel, and in my view not only to Israel.”

“It is not just the nuclear issue,” he added. “It is also the ballistic missiles and the Iranian proxies.”

He said the conversation also touched on Gaza and broader regional matters, concluding: “In any case, another conversation with a giant friend of the State of Israel — the likes of whom we have not had.”

Following the meeting, President Trump wrote on Truth Social: “I have just finished meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu, of Israel, and various of his Representatives. It was a very good meeting, the tremendous relationship between our two Countries continues.”

Trump clarified that “There was nothing definitive reached other than I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a Deal can be consummated.”

“If it can,” Trump wrote, “I let the Prime Minister know that will be a preference. If it cannot, we will just have to see what the outcome will be.”

Separately, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that Netanyahu will participate remotely in the upcoming annual AIPAC conference and will not travel to Washington next week. His office also confirmed that he will not attend President Trump’s Peace Council gathering in person.
