Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed relief Sunday morning after a shooting incident near the White House, praising President Donald Trump and condemning political violence.
“I am relieved that President @realDonaldTrump, the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House, is safe and that the attacker was neutralized before he could cause any further harm,” Netanyahu wrote.
He added that “political violence, including repeated attempts to assassinate President Trump, should be unequivocally and forcefully condemned by all.”
Netanyahu’s statement came after Secret Service officers shot and killed a suspect who opened fire near the White House shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.
According to U.S. authorities, the suspect pulled a gun from a bag and began firing, prompting an immediate response from agents on the scene. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A bystander was injured in the incident, while no Secret Service personnel were hurt.
Officials said Trump was inside the White House at the time, and no protectees were harmed.
The Associated Press identified the suspect as Nasire Best of Maryland. According to reports, he had prior encounters with the Secret Service, including incidents in 2025 involving threats and attempts to enter restricted areas.
