As reports continue to indicate that a U.S.-Iran agreement could be finalized within days, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement Friday reaffirming that Israel will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
“As long as I am Prime Minister of Israel, Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu declared.
The statement comes amid growing debate in Israel over the emerging agreement between Washington and Tehran, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested is nearing completion.
Netanyahu said he and Trump remain in “full agreement” on the issue of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
“I have been at the forefront of the international struggle against Iran’s nuclear program for more than 30 years,” Netanyahu said. “Were it not for this struggle, Iran would have long ago possessed atomic bombs to destroy Israel.”
He added that Iran continues to seek the destruction of the Jewish state and said he has dedicated his life to preventing that outcome.

The remarks came one day after the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Trump had spoken with Netanyahu regarding the emerging memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu expressed appreciation for Trump’s commitment that any final agreement would include the removal of enriched nuclear material, the dismantling of Iran’s enrichment infrastructure, restrictions on missile production, and an end to Iranian support for terror proxies throughout the region.
While Israeli officials have emphasized that Israel is not a party to the agreement, Netanyahu’s latest statement appeared intended to reassure the public that Jerusalem remains firmly opposed to any outcome that would leave Iran with a path to nuclear weapons.
The statement also follows reports from Iranian media suggesting that sanctions relief, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade, and the release of frozen Iranian assets could form part of the broader understanding being negotiated between Washington and Tehran.
With details of the agreement still emerging, Netanyahu’s message underscored what has long been one of Israel’s core national security positions: that a nuclear-armed Iran remains unacceptable regardless of the diplomatic framework ultimately reached.
