BrainsWay’s technology uses Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS)—a non-invasive therapy that employs magnetic pulses to target areas of the brain associated with depression.

For many people living with major depression, the most challenging part of getting treatment isn’t the therapy itself; it’s the time they have to spend going to and from therapy sessions and the toll that takes on family and career.
An Israeli medical technology company offers a faster, transformative treatment that has been the subject of a promising study.
BrainsWay, a neurotechnology firm founded in Jerusalem and now operating in both Israel and the US, has been a pioneer in brain stimulation research for years. Its latest breakthrough is a condensed version of Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS)—a noninvasive therapy that uses magnetic pulses to target areas of the brain associated with depression.
Instead of the standard six-week regimen of daily treatments, patients in the study underwent five sessions a day over just six days, followed by a few weekly follow-up sessions. The result: faster relief with fewer clinic visits.
“I see patients who are motivated to get better but simply cannot make it to a clinic five days a week for six weeks straight,” said Dr. Russ Voltin, a psychiatrist at one of the trial sites. “This accelerated treatment approach appears to preserve efficacy while making the logistics far more manageable. For many patients, it could mean the difference between getting treated and not receiving the treatment.”
The large, multicenter trial enrolled 104 adults with major depressive disorder. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either the standard or accelerated protocol. Both groups showed similar improvements in depression symptoms, with response and remission rates in the accelerated group reaching nearly 88% and 78%, respectively.
“Innovation in mental health care is not only about new technology,” said Dr. Colleen Hanlon, vice president of medical affairs at BrainsWay. “It is also about advancing how care is delivered.”
BrainsWay’s Deep TMS device was developed in Israel and uses proprietary H-Coil technology—engineered in Jerusalem—to stimulate deeper brain regions more effectively than older treatments. Already cleared by the FDA for depression, OCD, and smoking addiction, the company’s devices are now used in clinics around the world.
The new accelerated treatment is still being tested and pending regulatory approval, but the results so far offer hope to those who need care that fits into their lives and their schedules.
