“Israel’s embassy in Fiji will strengthen Israel’s presence in the entire Pacific region, which is friendly to Israel.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced Thursday that Israel will open an embassy in the Republic of Fiji. The decision was conveyed during a phone call between Saar and Fiji’s prime minister and foreign minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.
According to Saar, the new Israeli embassy is expected to open in 2026. In a post on X, he wrote: “Just spoke with the PM and FM of Fiji. I informed the PM of my decision to open an Israeli embassy in Fiji in 2026.” Saar added, “Opening the new embassy will tighten the relations between the two countries. At the same time, Israel’s embassy in Fiji will strengthen Israel’s presence in the entire Pacific region, which is friendly to Israel.”

The move comes as a reciprocal step aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, following Fiji’s official opening of its embassy in Jerusalem earlier this year.
In September, Fiji Prime Minister Rabuka and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu jointly inaugurated Fiji’s resident embassy in Jerusalem in a historic ceremony marking a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
At the inauguration, Rabuka underscored the depth of Fiji’s connection to Israel, saying, “Our presence here reflects our desire to build bridges—not walls—between nations, cultures, and peoples.”
He also emphasized Fiji’s religious and cultural ties to the Holy Land, stating, “The people of Fiji share a very close religious and cultural connection to the Holy Land. We deeply value your great nation, which is the birthplace of Christianity. Our similarities, faith and common values continue to strengthen us together in unity and solidarity, as witnessed here this afternoon.”
Fiji is regarded as one of Israel’s most consistent and outspoken supporters in the international arena and at the United Nations. During his conversation with Saar, Rabuka reaffirmed his country’s commitment to Israel, saying, “We will always stand with you.”
Israeli officials view the decision to open an embassy in Fiji as strategically significant beyond bilateral relations alone.
The embassy is expected to serve as a hub for strengthening Israel’s presence across the Pacific region and for deepening ties with additional island nations in an area considered broadly friendly toward Israel.
