Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar inaugurated Israel’s new embassy in Suva, Fiji, on Tuesday, establishing a regional diplomatic mission that will serve Fiji and nine additional Pacific Island nations as Israel seeks to expand its presence across the Pacific region.
The embassy, located on Level 9 of the FHL Tower in Suva, was officially opened during Sa’ar’s visit to Fiji.
The mission is intended to strengthen Israel’s diplomatic reach in what officials described as the strategically important “Blue Pacific” region.
During the visit, Sa’ar was hosted by Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and took part in traditional indigenous welcome ceremonies. The two countries also signed a declaration of intent on national security cooperation and a memorandum of understanding covering diplomatic training.
The opening follows Fiji’s inauguration of its own embassy in Jerusalem in September 2025, a move that marked a significant expansion of ties between the two countries.
According to Israeli officials, the new mission will function as a regional embassy serving Fiji and nine other countries in the Pacific. Fiji is regarded as a regional leader among Pacific Island states, and the embassy is expected to support Israel’s engagement with governments throughout the region.
Fiji has been one of Israel’s consistent supporters in international forums, including at the United Nations. Israeli officials also noted that Fiji intervened in support of Israel during proceedings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Sa’ar’s visit included meetings with Fiji’s senior leadership, including President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Foreign Minister Sakiasi Ditoka, and other officials. He was also scheduled to meet Lionel Rouwen Aingimea, vice president and minister for foreign affairs and justice of Nauru.
The embassy in Fiji is the fourth new Israeli diplomatic mission inaugurated by Sa’ar in less than a year and a half, following the opening of embassies in Moldova, Zambia, and Estonia.
“By opening Israel’s embassy in Fiji, we are continuing to expand Israel’s diplomatic activity around the world in general, and in the Pacific region in particular, and sending a message of strengthening the partnerships and relations with countries that are friendly toward Israel,” Sa’ar said.
