“This war will determine our future and our security here for many years,” Zamir said.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Sunday that Israel’s war against Iran and its regional proxies will be long and decisive, calling the conflict “the war of our generation” that will shape the country’s future for years to come.
Zamir spoke during a situation assessment with Home Front Command commander Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, Air Defense Array commander Brig. Gen. G., and other senior officers.
During the briefing, the IDF chief referred to overnight Israeli strikes targeting Iranian Quds Force terrorists in Lebanon, including a precision operation in Beirut that eliminated several senior commanders linked to Iran’s military network in the country.
According to the IDF, the strike targeted commanders from the Lebanon Corps and the Palestine Corps of the Quds Force, the overseas arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The terrorists were meeting in a hotel in Beirut when Israeli forces carried out the strike based on precise intelligence gathered by the IDF Intelligence Directorate.
“Overnight we acted against Iranian Quds Force forces in Lebanon, in Beirut, and struck them,” Zamir said. “There is no safe place for the Iranian axis of evil anywhere in the Middle East, not in Beirut and not anywhere else.”
At the same time, Zamir acknowledged continued rocket and missile fire targeting Israeli communities in the north and expressed condolences following a deadly overnight incident involving Israeli forces.
“We experienced significant fire toward northern communities, and there was an incident overnight,” he said. “I want to send my condolences to the families of the fallen and wish a speedy recovery to our wounded.”
Zamir described Hezbollah as a central arm of Iran’s regional network and warned the organization will continue to pay a heavy price for entering the conflict.
“Hezbollah is an extreme arm of the Iranian octopus, and it is paying and will continue to pay a heavy price,” he said.
According to Zamir, Israel must prepare for a prolonged campaign as it confronts Iranian forces and their proxies across the region.
“Israel has been in a state of continuous emergency for two years. What we need now above all is persistence and patience,” he said. “This will take time, and you must be prepared for that. However long it takes, it will take.”
The IDF chief framed the conflict as an existential struggle for Israel’s long-term security.
“This is the war of our generation. It is a critical and fateful war,” Zamir said. “This war will determine our future and our security here for many years.”
Zamir also addressed the Israeli public, acknowledging the strain on civilians repeatedly forced into shelters as missile attacks continue.
“I know that many citizens are required to enter protected spaces frequently,” he said. “We constantly review the guidelines according to the situation, and I ask the public to remain attentive and follow the instructions.”
He emphasized that Israel’s success will depend on national resilience.
“Those who will win are those who show determination and persistence,” Zamir said. “We know our home front has great strength, and I am confident in its ability to support us in achieving our objectives.”
