The IDF Spokesperson announced on Wednesday a significant change to defensive protocols for residents of northern Israel.
Starting tomorrow, Thursday, at 4:00 PM, the “protective window”, the time allotted for residents to reach a secure space, will be extended for 49 additional communities.
The decision follows a professional review conducted by the Home Front Command in collaboration with Northern Command and the Israeli Air Force.
A specialized team of experts led the initiative, implementing a series of operational and technological adjustments to allow civilians more time to seek shelter during rocket or drone alerts.
Details of the Changes
The adjustments affect various areas across the Upper, Lower, and Central Galilee. The primary changes are as follows:
46 Communities: The protective time will be extended from 30 seconds to 45 seconds.
3 Communities: The protective time will be extended from 30 seconds to 60 seconds.

“The Command continues to deepen its learning and examine solutions that will strengthen the preservation of human life,” Milo stated.
“This move is part of an organized, responsible process based on cumulative experience. Extending the times is intended to allow for optimal preparation during emergencies, thereby strengthening the level of security for residents.”
The Home Front Command has already presented the specifics of these changes to the relevant local authorities.
Officials noted that the extension of these windows is made possible through improved detection systems and a better understanding of the current threats facing the northern front.
