German Jewish activists were doused with red paint while trying to hang photos of Israeli hostages in a Frankfurt park on Friday evening.
Sacha Stawski, a 55-year-old real estate agent and president of the anti-antisemitism organization Honestly Concerned, was hosting an event at Grüneburgpark to raise awareness for the 50 hostages still being held by Hamas when about 20 to 30 people, some wearing Friedrich Merz masks over their faces, repeatedly pushed the group aside.
When Stawski tried to hang the hostage photos, antisemitic chants erupted before a masked woman attacked them with two tubes of red paint.
“We attached posters with photos of the 50 hostages still in Hamas’s captivity to a fence in the Frankfurt Grüneburgpark,” Stawski told Bild.
“I suddenly heard antisemitic calls – we were called child murderers, and I constantly heard chants of ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘genocide.’”
“The paint also poured over my glasses, making it difficult for me to recognize the perpetrator,” he recalled.
Frankfurt police confirmed the incident and said they would increase their presence in the area.

He’s also a member of Frankfurt’s Jewish community, which has faced mounting harassment since October 7.
Police figures show antisemitic attacks in Germany rose 20 percent last year, with hate incidents surging 83 percent in 2024 according to watchdog group RIAS.
According to the German tabloid, there was an encampment of environmentalists in the park at the time of the incident, though it was unclear if the attackers were linked.
