The sirens may have faded, but thousands of families are still battling the economic devastation left behind by years of war.
In Israel’s North, the crisis is far from over.
For nearly three years, communities along Israel’s northern border have endured missile attacks, evacuations, business closures, and economic devastation. While ceasefires may provide temporary relief from rocket fire, they cannot undo the economic damage left behind.
Irina Maman is known for refusing to leave during the evacuations. While others sought safety elsewhere, she stayed home to cook meals for Israeli soldiers. Now she worries about the future.
“People are afraid to leave their homes,” she says. “Shops are closed. It feels like a ghost town.”
The emotional toll is matched only by the financial one.
For years, Shimon ran a small business in northern Israel. He employed seven people and regularly donated to help needy families through Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. But as the war dragged on, customers disappeared, expenses mounted, and his business collapsed. He was forced to let his employees go before closing his doors.
Today, Shimon finds himself in a position he never imagined: relying on food assistance from the very organization he once supported.
His story is becoming increasingly common.
“We have received thousands of requests for food baskets from families in the North,” says Aryeh Lurie, founder of Yad Ezra V’Shulamit. “Every day, more people are turning to us for help. These are people who refused to leave their communities despite years of attacks. They are helping preserve Israel’s North by remaining there. We cannot abandon them now.”
As Israel’s largest food distribution network, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit feeds thousands of struggling families throughout the country every week. In recent months, requests from northern communities have surged as families exhaust their savings and continue to cope with the long-term consequences of war.
Food baskets filled with nutritious essentials are helping parents put meals on the table, support their children, and maintain a sense of dignity during an incredibly difficult time.
“We want to help everyone who turns to us,” says Lurie. “But we cannot do it alone. I call on friends of Israel around the world to stand with these families. The residents of the North have shown extraordinary courage and resilience. Now they need our help.”
The missiles may no longer dominate the headlines, but the struggle continues.
Israel’s North needs our support.
As families continue rebuilding their lives after years of conflict, Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is working to ensure that no family goes hungry.
