A British national living in Australia has had his visa cancelled and is facing possible deportation after being charged with promoting Nazi ideology and calling for violence against Jews, Australian authorities said.

The 43-year-old man, a resident of Queensland, was arrested earlier this month following an investigation into his online activity. Police allege he used social media to post Nazi swastikas, promote racial ideology, and issue explicit calls for violence against the local Jewish community.

During a raid on his home, officers discovered not only extremist propaganda but also a cache of weapons, including knives and an axe, along with physical Nazi materials, authorities said.

The suspect has been charged and is scheduled to face court in January. However, Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced this week that the man’s visa had been cancelled, citing national security and public safety concerns. He was taken into immigration detention in Brisbane as authorities weigh whether to deport him immediately to the United Kingdom or wait until legal proceedings are completed.

“He came here to hate, and he will not be given a place to stay,” Burke said in a statement. “Anyone who comes to Australia on a visa is here as a guest. There is no tolerance for those who abuse that privilege to promote hatred and violence.”

The case comes amid an intensified crackdown by Australian police on the use of prohibited symbols, as the country grapples with a surge in antisemitism and right-wing extremism.

The heightened sensitivity follows the horrific Chanukah massacre at Bondi Beach earlier this month, which sent shockwaves through Australia’s Jewish community and underscored growing concerns over extremist violence.

Australian officials have said they are determined to act decisively against threats targeting minority communities, as authorities continue to investigate extremist networks and enforce newly strengthened laws banning Nazi symbols and incitement.
