The embassy warned restrictions could be imposed without notice and advised Americans to consider leaving while commercial flights remain available.

The United States has authorized the departure of non-emergency government personnel and family members from its mission in Israel, citing growing security risks amid escalating regional tensions.
In an official notice released Thursday, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem said, “On February 27, 2026, the Department of State authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and family members of U.S. government personnel from Mission Israel due to safety risks.”
The embassy warned that additional restrictions could be imposed without advance notice and advised Americans to consider leaving the country while commercial flights remain available, stating that “persons may wish to consider leaving Israel while commercial flights are available.”
According to The New York Times, U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee reinforced the warning in an internal email to embassy staff, urging those considering departure to act immediately. Those wishing to leave “should do so TODAY,” Huckabee wrote, encouraging employees to board any available commercial flight out of Israel and arrange onward travel afterward.
Huckabee stressed there was “no need to panic,” but advised that those planning to depart should do so sooner rather than later.
Officials also indicated the embassy may impose further limits on employee movement depending on security developments.
The American advisory comes as other governments issue similar warnings tied to rising tensions involving Iran. Canada has called on its citizens to leave Iran, while China urged nationals not to travel to the country and advised those currently there to depart.
The coordinated alerts reflect growing international concern that rapidly evolving security conditions could soon affect civilian travel and diplomatic operations across the region.
