Police in Scotland are examining a social media post depicting British-Jewish actress Maureen Lipman with devil horns following a complaint linked to an online campaign opposing her upcoming performance in Aberdeen.

The image was shared by the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign as part of a petition calling for the cancellation of Lipman’s appearance in the play Allegra at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.

The group said she had a “long record of harmful statements about Muslims, Palestinians and Palestinian rights.”

Police Scotland confirmed the report is under assessment, according to the BBC.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism responded by describing the image as a “longstanding antisemitic trope.”

The incident follows previous public statements by Lipman regarding antisemitism in the United Kingdom.

She has compared current levels of antisemitism to those seen in 1933 Nazi Germany and has said she required security measures due to threats.

Lipman has also resigned from the actors’ union Equity and criticized colleagues for their response to Hamas attacks.

Lipman has had a longstanding career in British cultural life, working across theater, television, and writing.

She became established in stage productions and later gained broader recognition through television roles and comedy performances.

Her appearances in commercials further expanded her public profile.

She later joined the television series Coronation Street as Evelyn Plummer, bringing renewed attention to her work. In addition to acting, she has authored books and written columns.

The controversy comes amid broader reports of pressure facing Jewish and Israel-connected artists in the United Kingdom.

Recent accounts have described cancellations, boycotts, and online harassment, including cases where performances were called off following campaigns targeting individuals based on identity or views.
