President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump called on ABC to fire late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following remarks he made about the first lady days before an attempted assassination of the president at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The comments were delivered Thursday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” during a monologue in which Kimmel said Melania Trump had “a glow like an expectant widow.”

The show aired shortly before the April 25, 2026, event at the Washington Hilton, where President Trump, the first lady and other senior officials were later evacuated during a security incident.

On Sunday, authorities said a gunman identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen attempted to shoot President Trump during the dinner, charging a security checkpoint with firearms. Secret Service agents stopped him before he reached the venue.

One officer was struck in a protective vest. Allen was arrested and charged with attempting to assassinate the president.

Following the incident, President Trump criticized Kimmel’s remarks in a post on Truth Social, writing, “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC,” and describing the joke as a “despicable call to violence.”

Melania Trump also issued a statement on X calling for action against the host. “It’s time for ABC to take a stand,” she wrote. “Enough is enough. Kimmel’s rhetoric is designed to divide our country.”

She continued, “His monologue about my family is not comedy, and it deepens the political sickness within America. People like Kimmel should not be given the opportunity to enter our homes every evening to spread hate.”

The remarks by both the president and first lady focused on the content of the monologue and its broadcast ahead of the incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where federal officials were present.
