Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone Monday with U.S. President Donald Trump, who invited him to the White House for a visit in the near future. The call comes amid renewed political attention to Netanyahu’s legal proceedings and reports of a request for a presidential pardon.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders discussed their shared commitment to dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities and advancing broader regional peace. The office confirmed that President Trump extended a formal invitation for Netanyahu to meet him in Washington soon.

A senior political source told Channel 14 that Trump also raised Netanyahu’s legal situation during the call. According to the source, Trump indicated that in his view a pardon should have been granted earlier. Netanyahu is expected to travel to Washington in late December or early January.

Shortly before the phone call, President Trump published a lengthy Truth Social post addressing developments in Syria and urging Israel to maintain an open channel. Trump wrote that “it is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State.” He added that the new Syrian president is working to ensure “that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together,” calling the moment “a historic opportunity” for “peace in the Middle East.”

The message came only days after a predawn IDF counterterror raid in southern Syria. During that operation, reservists from the 55th Reserve Brigade entered the village of Beit Jann to arrest two brothers tied to the Islamist Jemaah Islamiya network. The suspects were detained without resistance, but as the force withdrew, terrorists opened fire from about 200 meters away, wounding six soldiers. IDF troops returned fire and killed several attackers.

The timing of Trump’s post and the subsequent call places Israel’s security concerns, regional alliances and ongoing operations firmly on the agenda ahead of Netanyahu’s expected visit to Washington. The meeting is expected to center on regional stability, Iranian aggression and the shifting diplomatic landscape in the Middle East.
