Rawan Osman, a Syrian-born activist who identifies as a Zionist, is converting to Judaism and planning to immigrate to Israel, Ynet reported.
Osman, who lived in Lebanon for 18 years and is now based in Germany, has visited Israel 20 times since October 7 and has been vocal in expressing support for the Jewish state.
Her advocacy has included public statements and ongoing engagement with Israelis.
She said her last visit to Syria took place in 2012, when she traveled to see relatives.
By 2015, she said, all of her family members had left the country, and she no longer has relatives there.
She said this development gave her the ability to speak more openly in support of Israel without concern for family still residing in Syria.
Osman said reactions to her views are driven by hostility toward Israel. “They are simply upset because they hate Israel,” she said.
She described having extensive personal ties in Israel. “I know thousands of Israelis personally,” she added. “I have hundreds of Israeli friends. I have friends in intelligence, in the army, officers, soldiers, so I do not accept anyone wishing death on Israelis. But it is very common in the Arab world to wish that.”
According to Osman, negative claims about her circulate widely in parts of the Arab world.
She said she is aware of the criticism but does not consider it significant.
She added that some individuals privately express support for her position despite not doing so publicly.
“They tell me: We support you. Thank you for what you are doing. We dream of traveling to Israel,” she said.
Osman’s statements reflect her continued public advocacy as she moves forward with her conversion process and plans to relocate to Israel.
