A newly appointed Israeli envoy formally began her service in Cambodia this week, following a credential ceremony at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.
King Norodom Sihamoni received Alona Fisher-Kamm on Monday in the Throne Hall, where she presented her diplomatic papers and opened her term as Israel’s ambassador.
The meeting highlighted the two countries’ longstanding relationship and the intention on both sides to continue expanding cooperation.
During the audience, the king congratulated the ambassador and conveyed his hopes for a productive tenure.
He expressed confidence that her work would contribute to what he described as a growing friendship between the nations.
Fisher-Kamm told the king she intends to deepen engagement with Cambodian institutions and build on existing areas of cooperation during her assignment.
Her first round of official meetings began the following day, when Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina hosted her at his ministry.
Their discussion centered on agricultural development, an area where Israel and Cambodia have collaborated for years.
Tina welcomed the ambassador and thanked Israel for ongoing assistance in helping modernize Cambodia’s farming sector.
According to the minister, the cooperation is particularly valuable for students who take part in agricultural internship programs in Israel.
He encouraged Israel to expand support for these exchanges, stressing the importance of ensuring that young Cambodians receive strong technical training and practical field experience.
He also raised the need for clear safety measures to protect students while they are abroad.
Tina said Cambodia has significant room for growth in agricultural technology and research and noted that further collaboration could involve the country’s main agricultural education institutions and the Royal Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
He added that linking these institutions with Israeli partners could help Cambodia develop more modern practices and introduce new tools to support farmers.
Fisher-Kamm signaled her readiness to work with the ministry on these priorities as part of her broader mandate. Both sides said they expect cooperation across the agricultural sector to continue expanding during her term, reflecting a shared interest in using technology and education to support Cambodia’s long-term development.
