More than 16,000 women across Israel have received mammogram and breast ultrasound screenings over the past two years through a mobile medical initiative operated by Meuhedet Health Fund, as health officials continue efforts to raise early detection rates for breast cancer.

The Women’s Health Mobile Unit, which has visited 70 cities and towns nationwide, was created to address gaps in access to routine screening, particularly in areas where geographic distance, time constraints, or social barriers reduce participation in preventive care.

Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide, with about 5,500 new cases identified each year in Israel—an average of roughly 15 diagnoses a day—out of approximately 2.6 million cases globally.

Health professionals stress that early detection remains a decisive factor in survival and recovery, even as screening compliance remains below targets set by the World Health Organization.

According to Meuhedet, bringing diagnostic services directly into communities has helped raise participation, especially in peripheral regions as well as among Haredi and Arab populations.

“The mobile unit allows us to reach women across the country, regardless of where they live, allowing them to undergo the examination without having to travel far and find time in their busy day-to-day schedule,” Mira Stivler, director of the Women’s Health Mobile Unit, told The Jerusalem Post. She said the model has reduced logistical obstacles that often delay or prevent routine testing.

Support for patients does not end with diagnosis. Meuhedet operates a dedicated assistance center known as the Pink Line, which provides follow-up guidance, counseling, and administrative support for women facing suspicious or confirmed findings.

The service is staffed by nurses, social workers, and professional teams trained to assist patients throughout treatment.

The Pink Line operates during weekday evenings, Friday mornings, and Saturday nights, offering ongoing access to assistance alongside the mobile screening initiative.
