Four organ transplants were performed in one day, one after the other, at Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva.

In a single day last week, the lives of three children ranging in age from two and a half to nine years old and the life of one young adult were saved.

A two-year-old received a kidney, a three-year-old received a heart, a nine-year-old received a liver, and an 18-year-old received a kidney.

Heartbreak mixed with the joy of saving lives, as the father of Noor, the nine-year-old girl, acknowledged the grief of the family whose child’s death saved his daughter’s life.

“Although their daughter’s life was cut short, she gave life to my daughter, who has suffered greatly for more than four years through difficult dialysis treatments and had already lost hope,” he said in his heartfelt and deeply moving statement.

“Know that every breath and every heartbeat of Noor exist only because of you. A part of your daughter will live in our daughter forever, and therefore, in our eyes, she is also your daughter. We embrace you and would be honored to meet when the time is right.”

Schneider Children’s Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in the world equipped to carry out multiple organ transplants in one day, an operation that requires a high level of coordination among various teams, such as the anesthesia unit, the nursing team, the transplant surgeons and others.

The hospital said it was proud of its achievement, while also empathizing with the grief of the families who donated the organs.

“Schneider conducted an important and emotional transplant marathon that gave life to four children,” the hospital’s CEO, Dr. Efrat Bron Harlev, said.

“We are deeply proud of the privilege of taking part in saving lives. We share in the grief of the bereaved family, and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for this noble act of generosity during their most difficult hour.”
