Iran’s lone Jewish lawmaker has urged members of the country’s Jewish community to immediately cut all online ties with Israeli social media, warning that past activity could expose individuals to questioning by Iran’s security apparatus, Ynet reports.

Dr. Homayoun Sameh, who represents the community in parliament, told Jewish Iranians in a public letter that intelligence officials recently summoned him after authorities reviewed likes, comments and other interactions left by community members on Israeli or Israeli-linked accounts.

He said the agencies viewed some of the material as “inappropriate comments” or “incorrect content,” prompting what he described as face-to-face discussions aimed at clarifying the situation.

Sameh wrote that “fortunately, no issues arose for these individuals,” but cautioned that the matter required swift action.

His message instructed users to go through their digital history and remove anything that could be considered sensitive.

“If you have posted unusual, sensitive or misleading comments or likes, please delete them as soon as possible,” he wrote, noting that even passive membership in certain channels might carry risk.

Sameh specifically pointed to Persian-language Israeli government channels and accounts associated with the IDF or other “hostile” outlets, telling followers to exit them without delay.

He said those platforms are viewed by Iranian authorities as “attributed to the Zionist regime,” and warned that continued engagement could escalate the situation for community members.

“It is clear that if you do not delete comments and likes, or if you continue to be members of these channels, legal problems may arise and it will be much more difficult to resolve the issue in the future,” he wrote.

The warning comes months after Sameh publicly aligned himself with the Iranian government’s position during last year’s war, when he wished Iran victory over Israel.

His latest appeal signals growing concern over how the state monitors online behavior, particularly among minority groups already navigating tight restrictions.
