Some Democrats skipped Netanyahu’s speech as a form of protest.

Celebrity attorney, author, and social commentator Alan Dershowitz said he is leaving the Democratic Party and will now identify as an independent, citing what he described as anti-Israel and anti-Jewish positions within the party.
Speaking during a radio interview with Zev Brenner, the former Harvard law professor, who has described himself in the past as a lifelong Democrat, criticized Democratic politicians and the party’s convention that nominated Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate.
“It was the most anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, anti-Zionist convention I’ve experienced,” he said. “I was disgusted at the Democratic National Convention. Absolutely disgusted.”
“I am no longer a Democrat. I am an Independent,” he added, saying he would not disclose whom he plans to vote for president until possibly after Nov. 1.
“I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to encourage the current administration to support Israel.”
Dershowitz said multiple factors contributed to his decision. “Alot of things pushed me in that direction,” he said.
He pointed to Vice President Kamala Harris’ absence from presiding over a joint session of Congress during an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a significant factor.

Dershowitz also named Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders, saying they were anti-Israel. He also referenced Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been accused of antisemitism in the past.
He said anti-Israel protesters outside the convention called for the destruction of Israel.
“That’s not my party,” Dershowitz said.
