SCIO, an Israeli company focused on agricultural technology, has launched a new handheld device that lets US corn growers check moisture levels in corn instantly, without shelling or lab tests.
The device, called the SCIO Mini 2 Corn, is already being used by major agricultural companies, including Syngenta and Corteva.
The SCIO Mini 2 builds on a previous version used by thousands of farmers worldwide.
It uses near-infrared (NIR) light to analyze the corn, showing results in seconds.
The new model has been upgraded with a more durable design, longer battery life, and easier charging. It can now perform more than 1,000 scans on a single charge and includes a built-in corn attachment.
Damian Goldring, SCIO’s co-founder and chief technology officer, said the goal was to save time and make field testing simpler. “If you’re walking through acres of farmland in the heat, you need answers fast,” he said in a press release. “This tool gives farmers instant feedback about whether their corn is ready to harvest or needs more time.”
The device is also designed to connect with SCIO’s mobile app and cloud platform, allowing farmers to track data and make informed decisions about when and how to harvest or store their crops.
The company, previously known as Consumer Physics, is based in Israel and has customers in 186 countries. SCIO says it has logged more than 13 million scans globally.
Its technology has been adopted across the agricultural supply chain, including by seed producers, dairy groups, and food companies.
Goldring said the company’s goal is to make advanced analysis tools accessible and practical. “It’s not just about data — it’s about helping farmers feel confident in what they’re doing out in the field,” he said.
SCIO is led by CEO Dr. Assaf Carmi and Goldring. The company holds more than 60 patents related to NIR technology.
