Even as Israel continues to battle Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and threats from Iran and the Houthis, the country has seen an unexpected surge in immigration.
More than 50,000 people have chosen to make Israel their new home since the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre, according to new figures released by the Jewish Agency.
Roughly one in three of these new arrivals are young adults between 18 and 35, the agency reported.
In addition to full-time immigration, about 20,000 young Jews from communities worldwide have traveled to Israel through Masa Israel Journey—a joint program of the Jewish Agency and the Israeli government—to volunteer and show solidarity since the war began.
Tens of thousands have also attended Aliyah fairs worldwide, with more than 60,000 people officially opening immigration files since October 7.
The Jewish Agency has simultaneously distributed tens of millions of dollars in aid to Israelis affected by terror and war.
More than 22,000 victims have received immediate financial grants, trauma rehabilitation services, and resilience-building support—especially for children.
Strengthening Global Jewish Bonds
Through its Communities2Gether project, the agency has launched around 30 new partnerships connecting Jewish communities abroad with hard-hit towns in Israel’s Gaza border region and the north.
The initiative has sent more than 1,700 Israeli children to North American summer camps, offering them a break from the war zone.
Meanwhile, the Youth Futures program has provided intensive, long-term mentoring to morethan 18,000 children and parents across some 50 towns in Israel’s social and geographic periphery, reinforcing community resilience during wartime.
North American Aliyah at Record Levels
Last month, Nefesh B’Nefesh brought 225 immigrants on a single El Al charter flight from North America.
In total, more than 1,000 North Americans moved to Israel with its assistance in August alone—the highest monthly figure since the group’s founding in 2002.
