Nefesh B’Nefesh and Israeli government partners held MedEx France 2026 in Paris on May 3, offering European medical professionals a streamlined path to work in Israel and addressing shortages in the country’s healthcare system.

The one-day event targeted physicians and healthcare workers from France, Belgium, Germany, and neighboring countries, providing on-site services including opening Israeli medical license files with the Ministry of Health, meeting hospital recruiters, and certifying documents through an Israeli notary.

Organizers said the initiative was designed to mitigate the shortage of healthcare workers in Israel, particularly in the Negev and Galilee regions.

The event was organized by Nefesh B’Nefesh in partnership with Israel’s Ministries of Aliyah and Integration; Health; Negev, Galilee, and National Resilience; and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

The Israel Medical Association also participated in the initiative.

Attendees represented about 30 medical specialties, along with medical students considering careers in Israel, according to organizers. More than 50 applications for medical license conversion were submitted during the event.

A feature introduced at the 2026 gathering was the ability to take the YAEL Hebrew Exam on-site, allowing participants to meet language requirements for licensing while still abroad.

Promotional materials for the event described the process as a way to complete multiple steps in a single day, including opening a licensing file, meeting recruiters, and receiving document certification.

“You studied medicine in France. You’ve built your career there. And maybe, for a while now, you’ve been thinking about Israel,” the materials said.

Organizers said the program is part of broader efforts to attract medical professionals from Europe to Israel’s healthcare system.

“This marks the third consecutive year that, together with our partners, we have brought hundreds of doctors to Israel annually,” Aliyah and Integration Minister Ofir Sofer told Ynet. He said the physicians’ impact is especially significant in underserved regions such as the Negev and the Galilee, Israel’s northern region.
