“The friendship between Israel and the United States is a bond of trust and mutual commitment: two brotherly nations that stand for one another.”

President Donald Trump was awarded the Israel Prize on Wednesday during Israel’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, in a move that highlighted the close and often unprecedented ties between the United States and Israel.

The award, Israel’s highest civilian honor, was granted in the special category of “Unique Contribution to the Jewish People,” marking the first time it has been given to a non-Israeli leader.

Presenting the prize, officials framed the decision not only as recognition of specific policies but as a reflection of a broader partnership between the two nations.

“Israel’s strength is measured not only on the battlefield but also in the spirit of its people,” one speaker said. “It is also measured by those who stand with you in decisive moments, those who choose to tie their fate to yours.”

“That is the friendship between Israel and the United States,” he continued. “A bond of trust and mutual commitment. Two brotherly nations that stand for one another.”

Officials highlighted the close working relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the alliance reached “a deeper, more personal, and more direct expression than ever before.”

“This partnership reached new heights in the face of the Iranian threat,” the announcement noted, adding that American and Israeli forces have operated “shoulder to shoulder, wing to wing,” combining efforts to reshape the strategic reality of the Middle East.

Trump was described as “a true friend of the Jewish people and the State of Israel,” with officials pointing to many years of support that spanned both times of peace and war.

Among the actions highlighted were the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the relocation of the U.S. Embassy, recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and efforts that paved the way for the Abraham Accords.

The award also reflected U.S. backing for Israel during the current war, including military support, diplomatic backing, and efforts to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as well as initiatives connected to the return of hostages.

“His unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, well-being, and future is evident across many fields,” the statement said, adding that his leadership helped bring the U.S.-Israel alliance “to unprecedented heights.”

Following the announcement, the ceremony transitioned into a powerful video reel highlighting Trump’s pro-Israel statements and actions over the years, drawing sustained applause from the audience.

The tribute, organizers said, was meant to capture not only past decisions but an ongoing partnership that continues to shape the region.

“This is how history is written before our eyes,” the speaker said. “Page after page, chapter after chapter, in the language of friendship, wisdom, and courage.”

The formal presentation of the prize is expected to take place during a future visit to Israel.
