The website of Yeshiva World News, an Orthodox Jewish publication, was hacked on Wednesday in an incident that appeared to be linked to Iran, as cyber activity associated with Iran-aligned actors continues to target US and Israeli networks.
For a period of time, the site displayed a message in Farsi reading, “Now we are under their control. The Zionists are handcuffed,” alongside an image depicting Ruhollah Khomeini and former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei observing Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, surrounded by regime imagery.
The website appeared to be partially restored by early afternoon, showing a message stating, “We will be back shortly.”
After reviewing social media and Telegram channels associated with Iranian hackers, The Jerusalem Post reported that it did not detect any group claiming responsibility for the breach.
The incident comes amid broader warnings from US authorities about potential cyber activity tied to Iran.
A February 28 threat assessment produced by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security said the primary concern was that Iran-aligned “hacktivists” would carry out low-level cyber operations against US networks, including website defacements and distributed denial-of-service attacks.
Recent incidents have affected both US and Israeli targets. Last week, the US medical technology company Stryker was hit by a suspected Iran-linked cyberattack, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The company experienced a global systems outage, and staff and contractors reported that the logo of an Iran-linked hacking group appeared on login pages.
Since the start of Operation Roaring Lion, the Iran-linked hacker group Handala has claimed responsibility for breaching Clalit, Israel’s largest healthcare provider. Israel’s National Cyber Directorate said it has received an increasing number of reports from organizations across multiple sectors experiencing similar cyber incidents.
The developments reflect a rise in cyber activity occurring alongside the ongoing conflict, with both US and Israeli entities facing repeated digital disruptions.
