The IDF cleared for publication Monday morning the name of an Israeli reservist killed in a Hezbollah drone attack near the Lebanon border.
The fallen soldier was identified as Alexander Glovanyov, 47, from Petah Tikva, who served as a transport driver in Battalion 6924 of the IDF Transportation Center.
According to initial details, several explosive drones launched by Hezbollah crossed into Israeli territory Sunday afternoon and exploded near the Lebanon border shortly before 4 p.m.
Glovanyov was directly struck by one of the exploding drones. He is the fourth Israeli security serviceman killed by explosive drones since the ceasefire went into effect.
The drones were reportedly not detected by IDF systems, and no warning sirens were activated in the area where Glovanyov was operating, leaving him with no time to take cover.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement following the announcement.
“My wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Master Sgt. (res.) Alexander Glovanyov, who fell near the Lebanon border,” Netanyahu said.
“Alexander, 47 at the time of his death, volunteered for reserve duty out of deep commitment and a sense of mission to defend the State of Israel.”
“Together with all the citizens of Israel, we embrace the Glovanyov family and share in their heavy grief. May his memory be blessed.”
Glovanyov’s mother, Flora, also spoke emotionally following the announcement of his death.
“He was my only son. I have no one now,” she said. “I was afraid of what was happening in the north, but he always calmed me down and said everything was okay. We spoke two days ago and he told me not to worry. What am I supposed to do now? My life is over.”
He is survived by his wife, two children, and mother.
Later Monday, the IDF said three soldiers were lightly wounded by another explosive drone in southern Lebanon. The soldiers were evacuated to a hospital for treatment and their families were notified.
The incidents came as the IDF expanded its operations in southern Lebanon on Monday, launching a broad wave of airstrikes and issuing evacuation warnings to multiple villages near the border.
Israeli officials said residents across parts of the Galilee and Hula Valley could hear heavy explosions for several hours as the military intensified its response to ongoing Hezbollah attacks.
