After nearly two years in Hamas captivity, Israeli hostage Eitan Mor has finally returned home, bringing immense relief and joy to his family and the nation.

His father, Tzvika Mor, shared new and heartbreaking details of Eitan’s ordeal in an interview on Israel’s Kan Reshet Bet public radio on Sunday. According to Mor, Eitan spent his first year in total isolation after his abduction by terrorists on October 7, 2023.

Throughout nearly two years in Gaza, he was moved approximately 40 times to different hiding places—all located in Gaza City, some above ground and others in underground tunnels.

Eitan endured periods of extreme hunger, surviving at times on just a few spoonfuls of rice a day.

In one chilling moment, Tzvika recounted, his son was caught stealing pita bread. “The terrorist holding him beat him severely,” he said. “And the one who rescued him was actually that terrorist’s wife, who screamed at her husband to stop beating him.”

Despite the suffering, Eitan’s return has filled his family with gratitude and faith.

On Monday morning, they released an emotional statement celebrating his homecoming: “This is the day the Lord has made us known and we will rejoice in him” (Psalm 118:24). “In praise and thanksgiving to God, we are happy to announce that our Eitan is home! Our beloved Eitan, how much we have waited for you, how much we have waited to finally see you after two years. We saw you for the last time on Hoshana Rabbah two years ago, and today we embrace you back into the family.”

The family expressed deep appreciation for the IDF and Israel’s security forces, crediting them for Eitan’s safe return. “Our Eitan returned to us thanks to the commanders and fighters of the IDF and the rest of the security forces, our heroes who went out to destroy the enemy with dedication. We want to thank them and embrace the bereaved families, widows, orphans and the wounded—it is only thanks to your sacrifice that we embrace Eitan today.”

They concluded their message with a heartfelt tribute to the people of Israel: “The people of Israel, our amazing people, thank you very much for your willingness to bear the burden of war for the destruction of the enemy and the return of the kidnapped, and for the warm embrace we have received from you over the past two years. Am Yisrael Chai.”

Families of other released hostages have also begun sharing the haunting experiences of their loved ones.

Tami Braslavski, the mother of survivor Rom Braslavski, said her son was held alone for two years and at times was forced to remain near the bodies of other hostages. Rom is currently receiving treatment at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, Ramat Gan.

Each testimony offers a glimpse into the unimaginable conditions endured by the hostages—but also into the resilience, faith, and unity that continue to define the Israeli spirit.
