The United Arab Emirates said its air defense systems intercepted two drones launched from Iran on Sunday, as incidents across the Gulf continue despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Defence said its systems “successfully engaged 2 UAVs launched from Iran,” adding that it remains “fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats and will firmly confront anything that aims to undermine the security of the country.”
The statement also highlighted the scale of recent attacks, saying UAE defenses have intercepted “a total of 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,265 UAVs” since the onset of hostilities.
The drone interception comes alongside another incident in the region. Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said a commercial cargo vessel was targeted by a drone Sunday morning while sailing in territorial waters northeast of Mesaieed Port.
The attack caused a limited fire on board, but no injuries were reported. Qatari officials said the fire was brought under control and the vessel continued its journey, adding that “necessary measures were taken” in coordination with relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, Iran signaled continued military readiness, with Iranian media reporting that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei met senior commander Ali Abdollahi and issued “new directives” aimed at sustaining operations and maintaining a determined stance against its enemies.
During the meeting, Abdollahi said Iran’s forces are at “peak readiness” and prepared to respond “swiftly and forcefully” to any aggression by the United States or Israel.
The developments come as Washington continues to await Tehran’s response to a proposed framework aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with mixed signals emerging from Iran’s leadership.
Last week, U.S. and Iranian forces briefly exchanged fire near the strait after American naval vessels came under missile and drone attack, prompting limited U.S. strikes in response.
The continued incidents across air and sea routes point to a volatile environment where tensions remain unresolved despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
