“The real discussion at the Security Council should be about the ongoing failure to implement Resolution 1701 and Lebanon’s transformation into an Iranian terror outpost,” Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon said.

France has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council amid the escalating conflict in Lebanon, as Israeli forces push deeper into Hezbollah-controlled territory and officials in Jerusalem weigh a broader military campaign.
French officials requested the emergency session to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon. A date for the meeting has not yet been announced.
The diplomatic push comes as fighting along Israel’s northern border continues to intensify. Over the weekend, Hezbollah launched sustained rocket attacks against northern Israeli cities and communities, with barrages continuing in recent days despite ongoing Israeli operations.
In response, the IDF has expanded its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, crossing the Litani River and capturing the strategic Beaufort Castle and surrounding high ground. Israeli officials described the operation as part of a broader effort to dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and remove threats to northern Israel.
According to Israeli media reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz are leaning toward approving a significantly expanded military campaign across Lebanon within the coming day. The reported plans could include large-scale strikes throughout the country and evacuation warnings affecting hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, sharply criticized France’s initiative, arguing that the focus of the Security Council should be Hezbollah’s violations of UN resolutions rather than Israel’s military response.
“The real discussion at the Security Council should be about the ongoing failure to implement Resolution 1701 and Lebanon’s transformation into an Iranian terror outpost,” Danon said. He argued that Hezbollah had spent years violating UN resolutions, arming itself with Iranian support, and posing a direct threat to Israeli civilians and regional stability.
Danon added that Israel would continue acting against threats to its citizens and would defend its security “at any place and at any time.”
The latest diplomatic clash underscores growing international concern that the fighting could expand further as Israel signals a willingness to intensify military operations and Hezbollah continues attacks on northern Israel.
