Mifal HaPais, Israel’s national lottery, witnessed an unusual streak of fortune this past week as two women in their 50s claimed multimillion-shekel prizes on consecutive days. Together, the jackpots totaled NIS 14 million.

The second of the two winners, an administrator who had been playing the same numbers for over three years, said she always believed her turn would come.

“Years ago, I was at a conference where an astrologer told me: ‘One day, you’ll win the Lotto.’ I told him, in front of everyone, ‘I know.’” She even dreamt of red fruits days before the draw, which she took as a sign of abundance.

At first, she thought her win amounted to NIS 6,000. It was her son who pointed out the truth: “Mom, it’s not 6 thousand — it’s 6 million!” The shock quickly gave way to joy. Reflecting on her good fortune, she cautioned, “It’s important to manage the money wisely and not lose your head. Enjoy life, stay humble, and most of all — have faith in the Creator, because everything comes from Him.”

Just a day earlier, another woman from central Israel had already claimed the NIS 8 million jackpot. For her, the win came from a routine habit: buying a ticket while walking her dog past a local kiosk. “I fill out a slip from time to time,” she said. “Even small past wins gave me a feeling that a big one was just a matter of time.”

She learned of the victory after being prompted by the kiosk owner to check her ticket. “I had no idea how much I’d won until I checked it myself at home,” she explained, noting that her partner believed her only after seeing the ticket. Her plans remain modest: “My goal is to buy an apartment. I’ll continue working as usual — and who knows, maybe I’ll fill out another slip.”

Israel’s lottery, Mifal haPais, was established in 1951 to raise funds for the construction of a Tel Aviv hospital.

Since then, Mifal haPais funds projects including pediatric clinics, hospitals, sports facilities, classrooms and school buildings, youth centers, adult education programs, cultural halls, performing arts venues, and public parks.
