“Our 2025 audit shows one of the most violent years for American Jews on record,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and national director of the ADL.

Antisemitic violence in the United States surged to alarming levels in 2025, even as the overall number of reported incidents declined, according to a new report released Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League.

The ADL recorded 6,274 antisemitic incidents over the year, including assaults, harassment, and vandalism—an average of 17 incidents per day.

While that figure represents a 33% drop from 2024, it still stands as the third-highest total since the organization began tracking such data in 1979, underscoring what officials describe as a deeply entrenched and increasingly dangerous threat.

More striking than the overall numbers was the sharp rise in violence. Physical assaults against Jews increased for the fourth consecutive year, climbing 4% from 196 incidents in 2024 to 203 in 2025.

Even more concerning, assaults involving deadly weapons jumped 39%, signaling a significant escalation in severity.

The year also saw deadly consequences. Three people were killed in antisemitic attacks, including two victims in a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., and another who died after a firebombing attack at a “Run for Their Lives” event in Boulder, Colorado.

“Our 2025 audit shows one of the most violent years for American Jews on record,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and national director of the ADL. “Numbers that would have shocked us five years ago are now our baseline.”

Greenblatt warned that antisemitism in the United States has entered a far more dangerous phase. “People are being murdered because of antisemitism on American soil, and thousands more are threatened,” he said. “We will not stop until that baseline changes.”

Despite the drop in total incidents, the broader environment remains highly volatile. The ADL documented 4,003 cases of harassment and 2,068 acts of vandalism in 2025, both declines from the previous year but still historically elevated.

Incidents were reported across all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with New York recording the highest number at 1,160 cases, followed by California with 817 and New Jersey with 687.

“Behind every one of these incidents is a real person,” said Oren Segal, the ADL’s senior vice president for counter-extremism and intelligence.

“A family threatened at their synagogue, a rabbi attacked on the street, a student harassed on campus. The rise in physical assaults is a stark reminder that this level of antisemitism puts Jewish lives at real risk.”

The report also highlights how deeply antisemitism has permeated everyday spaces. Incidents in K-12 schools remained high, with 825 cases reported, often involving peer harassment or swastika graffiti. On college campuses, incidents dropped sharply to 583, but still remain nearly triple the levels seen just a few years ago.

Nearly half of all incidents—45%—were linked to Israel or Zionism, reflecting the continued spillover of geopolitical tensions into domestic hostility toward Jewish communities.

While the ADL noted a decline in white supremacist propaganda and a reduction in anti-Israel rallies that crossed into antisemitism, the organization emphasized that the overall threat has not diminished—only shifted.

The findings paint a stark picture: Even as raw numbers fluctuate, antisemitism in America is becoming more violent, more normalized, and more dangerous than in recent memory.
