Odeh was responsible for planning and coordinating Hamas infiltration routes and attack targets during the October 7 massacre.

The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed Wednesday morning that Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed head of Hamas’ military wing, was eliminated in an Israeli strike in northern Gaza the previous night.
The Prime Minister’s Office first announced the strike Tuesday night, saying it had been carried out at the direction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Odeh had recently been appointed to lead Hamas’ military wing after the elimination of Izz al-Din al-Haddad two weeks earlier. He had also served as head of Hamas’ intelligence staff.
According to the IDF, Odeh was responsible for planning and coordinating Hamas infiltration routes and attack targets during the October 7 massacre.
The military said the operation followed months of intelligence tracking, during which several buildings in Gaza City used as hideouts were struck. A nearby apartment used by a Hamas terrorist who participated in the October 7 attack and assisted Odeh was also targeted.
Throughout the war, Odeh was involved in directing attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, while leading Hamas’ intelligence collection and analysis efforts.
The Prime Minister’s Office described him as “one of the architects of the October 7 massacre” and said he was responsible for the “murder, abduction, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers.”
“We will continue to pursue anyone who took part in the October 7 massacre,” the statement said. “Sooner or later, Israel will reach them all.”
The IDF said Odeh was among the last senior Hamas commanders involved in planning and carrying out the October 7 massacre, and that his elimination is a significant blow to Hamas’ efforts to rebuild its military wing.
