IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir made a surprise visit to Washington over the weekend as Israel intensifies coordination with the United States in response to Iran’s growing military threat.
According to Kan News, Zamir held intensive discussions with senior U.S. officials amid expanding American military deployments in the region.
Israeli media later reported that the rapid trip reflected the urgency Jerusalem places on confronting Iran at a moment when its missile capabilities are increasingly seen in Israel as no less dangerous than its nuclear program.
Israeli officials have stressed that close coordination with Washington is critical and say they expect advance notice of any military move, allowing Israel to prepare operationally and ready the home front for possible escalation.
While U.S. President Donald Trump has said Iran is engaged in talks, Israeli security officials remain skeptical, warning that Tehran continues to expand its ability to launch large, coordinated missile barrages aimed at Israel.
“Israel cannot live with the Iranian missile threat,” one senior defense official said, emphasizing that any credible response must address both Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and its missile launch systems.
The Washington visit follows a series of high-level exchanges between Israeli and U.S. defense and intelligence officials, reinforcing Israel’s assessment that while diplomacy may continue, preparedness for a military confrontation is essential should deterrence fail.
