“Red Alert,” the four-part mini-series recounting the horrors of the Hamas-led invasion of southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, was nominated on Friday for the Critics Choice Awards in the Best Foreign Language Series category.
The winners of the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards will be revealed on Jan. 6 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., once again in the combined film and television awards format.
The other nominees in the same category are the television series “Acapulco” (Apple TV), “Last Samurai Standing” (Netflix), “Mussolini: Son of the Century” (MUBI), “Squid Game” (Netflix) and “When No One Sees Us” (HBO Max).
“Red Alert,” in Hebrew Or Rishon (“First Light”), premiered globally on Oct. 7, 2025, on the second anniversary of the atrocities that led to Israel’s almost two-year war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
It aired in the United States on Paramount+ and in Israel on Channel 12.

It was produced by Israeli company the Keshet Media Group and top Hollywood producer Lawrence Bender (“Pulp Fiction,” “Inglourious Basterds”) and was filmed in Israel with an Israeli cast.
The role of the Bat Sheva Yahalomi character—who flees from terrorists with her daughter Yael and her baby in her arms—is portrayed by Israeli actress Rotem Sela.
“For me as an actress, it’s truly a privilege to tell the story of the horrors my people endured on Oct. 7,” Sela told JNS in November. “I think that’s the essence of why I became an actress in the first place.”
