Yaara Krispil, a movement therapist accompanying released hostage Eli Sharabi, pledged this week to help care for the daughters of his brother, Yossi Sharabi, who was buried at Kibbutz Be’eri after his body was recently returned from Gaza.
Attending Yossi Sharabi’s funeral, Krispil said, “I hear only how good you were. I’m sad I didn’t get to know you. I promise to help care for your daughters.”
The service in Be’eri drew a large crowd, including President Isaac Herzog, family members, and friends. Yossi’s widow, Nira, and their daughters, Yuval and Ofir, delivered tributes, as did siblings Eli, Osnat, and Sharon. Ofir Engel, a former hostage and Yuval’s partner, also spoke.
Eli Sharabi, who became a prominent voice for the hostage-return campaign after his own release when he discovered that Hamas had murdered his wife and two daughters, framed the burial as a measure of delayed justice and a moment for the family to grieve in their home community.
He said, “Yossi, my brother, today, after more than two years of waiting, anxiety and uncertainty, we finally have the honor of burying you here at home, on the land of Be’eri. It is not the end we longed for, but it is a beginning of delayed justice, of a place to breathe, of a place to cry.”
“You were more than a brother, you were an anchor. A man with a huge heart, quiet dedication, a family man, a father of three daughters who was always there with a kind word, a smile, a wide heart. You did not seek headlines, just to be good — and you were good, the very best,” Eli Sharabi added.
Eli and Krispil have appeared together publicly in recent days, most notably at Tel Aviv’s Fashion Week event.
