A robbery attempt in Ashdod took an unexpected turn Wednesday night when an ultra-Orthodox woman in her 30s bravely fought back against two young thieves on electric bicycles, Arutz Sheva reported.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in District G, as the woman stood at a crosswalk, purse in hand.
Suddenly, two men on e-bikes rode past her, with the one on the back grabbing her purse in a swift motion.
Rather than freezing or panicking, the woman immediately gave chase, following them into the road.
In a bold move that caught the assailants off guard, she managed to grab onto one of the bicycles and bring it to a stop.
Startled, one of the suspects tossed the stolen purse into nearby bushes and attempted to flee on foot.
The second rider stayed behind, struggling with the woman as he tried to retrieve the bicycle.
Bystanders quickly noticed the altercation and rushed in to help, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Witnesses reported that the rider appeared to try to push the woman away using force, but he was restrained by those nearby.
Following the struggle, the woman approached emergency responders, telling them she felt faint from the stress.
“I think I’m about to pass out,” she said. Paramedics treated her at the scene. Fortunately, her condition was stable and did not require hospitalization.
Police officers arrived shortly after and arrested the rider at the scene on suspicion of attempted aggravated robbery.
The second suspect, who had tried to escape, was later apprehended and is currently being interrogated by authorities.
The incident has drawn public attention, both for the woman’s courage and for the rapid response of bystanders and law enforcement.
