In a series of strikes on Tehran on Monday, the IDF reported that it destroyed Iran’s so-called “Doomsday Clock,” a symbol of the regime’s goal of eradicating Israel.
The clock, which was designed to run until 2040, was erected in Tehran’s Palestine Square, according to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s prophecy in 2015 that “Israel won’t last 25 years.”
The clock was a focal point in Tehran and symbolized the submission to the ayatollah’s goal and prediction that Israel will no longer exist in 40 years.
However, on Monday, the Israeli air force bombed the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Evin Prison, which is used to confine dissidents of the regime, as well as the Doomsday Clock.
Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz said the strikes were carried out “with unprecedented force” and in retaliation for Iran’s missiles that threatened Israelis.
“In accordance with the directives of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and myself, the IDF is now attacking with full intensity,” he stated. “For every shot fired at the Israeli home front, the Iranian dictator will be punished,” he said.
Reports circulated that the Israeli military failed to destroy the clock after Iran’s semi-official Mehr news outlet published a video of the clock still working.
However, others discounted those reports, as the news outlet is a regime-affiliated agency that regularly publishes propaganda. Regarding the video, there was no proof of when it was filmed.
The clock has been running since 2017, although in 2021, blackouts interrupted its operation.
In a country facing ongoing sanctions, Iran’s infrastructure was challenged by economic hardship, combined with drought and heat waves.
When the Doomsday Clock stopped working in 2021, critics of the regime joked, questioning how Iran planned to destroy the “Startup Nation” if the regime couldn’t manage to keep a clock running.
